Picnics are becoming an instant hit among urban dwellers with several youths gathering at various attractive serene venues to have fun.
While the COVID 19 lockdown has put a temporary halt to these activities, these outdoor events mostly frequented by a group of young girls have grown to become a significant fixture in Zimbabwe’s leisure scene.
In certain instances patrons bring their cooler boxes, camp chairs, and blankets among other accessories as they enjoy drinks and food with good music animating the ambience.
Some venues are providing various packages in which décor, food, plates, cutlery, photo shoots, wine, food and drinks are provided for a fee.

There has been a growing trend where girls converge on their own enjoying unfettered freedom far away from their “madding” male counterparts.
Girls are doing dates, enjoying their space and discussing various issues affecting their wellbeing, careers, society and academic life.
Apart from picnicking at attractive venues around town girls are also increasingly undertaking road trips to various resort towns such as Nyanga,Kariba,Great Zimbabwe, Mazoe dam, Nyati eco game park in headlands.
It is at these places that girls find uninterrupted space to share jokes, eat and drink away sorrows positioning themselves at the helm of peace and catch up with their social life.
Adding spice to their getaway trip will be fantastic games, mountain hiking, bumpy jumping, and horse riding, sunbathing and swimming in skimpy bikinis. Of course selfie moments will be an obsession, followed by Girls Trip Things , Girls Trip hashtags.
They will be so eager to disconnect from the mundane, daily routines from otherwise everyday noisy life thereby retreating away from it all.
These retreats offer a serene atmosphere for refreshment and rejuvenating their mortal bodies said one picnic and girls getaway trip frequenter Tinotenda.
“We do these trips so that we relate well.But some do these trips to prove a point to their partners that I want to do this but you don’t want to do this.Some need a day out and rest.And can do anything and be crazy without limitations. Girls teach each other on various pressing life issues. Some will be running away from the harsh realities back home,” she said.
But on the flip side by participating on these trips it is argued that some girls will be intending to show off or brag about a certain luxury lifestyle to their peers.
